Back to Eden
Knowledge of evil guarantees evil's existence . To pretend it doesn't exist simply births in our minds, as a natural response to this undesired force, its malevolent companions(Pain being a somewhat perfect example).
In a "perfect world", assuming a perfect God(based entirely on our biases) would suffice. All the while ignoring the fact that we need to realize our own imperfect(impaired) judgment has led us to this detrimental resolve.
Perhaps this is why the knowledge of good and evil was considered the key to our downfall. Our inability to choose freedom(living with the fact that is evil's existence), over slavery (submitting to the fact of evil's existence), would render us incapable of "reasonable function". This inability is brought to question once you assume a perfect God creating you in his very likeness. This needn't be the case however, for we were naive(a concept only the maker would be aware of at the point of our conception; one we'd obviously grasp with time), incapable of making informed decisions.
If we are to assume a God(creator of a balanced universe), incapable of using evil to evidence his benevolence, we only fool ourselves. It's easy to read within this the implication that is, a creator purposefully manifesting evil and subjecting all creation to it just so his glory might be made more manifest. If you find yourself a victim of this, do realize that that is not what is being said.
